Next week I start putting in hours on my fall internship. I will be working with a great librarian in interesting school. I will be keeping her schedule, clocking at the same time she does and doing the full day. I am really excited about this as I found during my fieldwork that it really allows me to get to know the rhythm of the school and develop a real sense of the job I hope to be doing next year and beyond.
The only problem is that school for the girls doesn't start till the second week of September. So I arranged for them to attend two full weeks at the YMCA daycamp, near our house. Additionally they have been going to Gymnastics camp (half-day) all week. Aay, has been enjoying it, she fought hard to be back in Gymnastics and loves everything about it, except the fact that she needs to cover her earrings with tape and her ears are really sensitive...
Zee on the otherhand... Well she has been enjoying some of it, she is very proud to show us what she is learning, but apparently has melted down several times. At nearly 6 years of age...that just not going to fly. We had a long chat about it yesterday...where I laid down some consequences for unacceptable behavior, how she would lose all sorts of home priveldges (tv time, wii time, computer time...etc) if she kept melting down at Gymnastics.
Part of me want to keep her home today...but I know starting next weeek that won't be a option. So while I will arm her with lots of extra hugs this morning, I do need to send her, since she needs to be able to behave appropirately in this kind of setting for the next two weeks and in her classroom after that. So pray for her, for me and her coach and classmates.
sigh.
good luck with that, ana! it took me quite a while to discover that team sports aren't really my thing. season after season, my parents would put up with my whining in favor of letting me quit. i sure hated it, but there are a lot of important life lessons in it!
ps: i can't wait to hear more about your practicum :)

Personally, I perfectly happy for her not to be into team sports of any kind. I am not a team sports person either...much happier getting my exercise on the elliptical trainer. Aay, loves it and we will probably keep her in it. What I nee is for Zee to be in well-behaved in a camp environment...thankfully as I understand it the set up the Y will be different, with more variety. I go pick her up in about a hour and half...

"At nearly 6 years of age...that just not going to fly."
Uh-oh...I'm 46 years of age, and I still melt down occasionally...

You mom isn't trying to get you to stay at camp...so I think you are fine.
Camp went well today...however she melted down over crust and sandwich orientation at lunch...so Chris and Aay joined our friends at the waterpark, and we stayed home. She was very very upset...but consequences were enforced and after going through the grief stages, she settled in, and helped me clean the house.

No, although when I was that age, I distinctly remember causing Ma a fair amount of trouble when it came to getting me to go to bed.
